At St Pius X High School, we strongly believe that every student can achieve high standards given the right time and the right support.

Welcome from Robert Emery

Principal, St Pius X High School

St Pius X High School, Adamstown, is a Catholic community that nurtures faith, excellence and lifelong learning. We are co-educational and Year 7 to 10. We have a student population of just over 1000. We have 75 teaching staff and 35 support staff. Our students come to us from six associated Catholic primary schools and from a number of other local primary schools. Our students love their school. It is a safe, welcoming place, where each student is supported through our comprehensive pastoral care system.

We are a Catholic community. We strive to put Jesus at the centre of all we do. We live and work in accordance with the Gospel values. Students, teachers and parents are called upon to treat one another with kindness and respect at all times. Our Ministry and Religious Education programs enable students to experience the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Faith and provide students with opportunities to make a real difference in the lives of others through various charity fundraising and support events. Our community is very alive, very positive; so many great things are happening all the time.

Our strong belief is that every student can achieve high standards given the right time and the right support. We believe that setting high expectations and providing early and ongoing intervention where necessary are essential to learning. Our focus for both students and staff is on continuous improvement.

We have an ongoing Professional Practice and Development program in which all teachers are engaged. We have an excellent teaching staff which is highly trained and highly motivated. They know their students and they are deeply committed to helping each student to achieve their best. Our gifted students are extended every day in every class. We have a highly successful Accelerated Maths program operating within the timetable from Year 7 to 10. Our large size enables us to provide a huge range of Elective courses for Year 9 & 10.

There is a lot on offer outside the classroom. Our students have a huge range of sporting and cultural pursuits available to them. St Pius is highly regarded in and very successful across many sports.  Students also have access to external Music Tutors who provide lessons in pretty much any instrument a child would like to learn.  We have bands and choirs.  We stage school musicals usually every two years. Students who are interested can learn music recording in our professional recording studio. Our Student Leadership program is extensive – we have over 40 students involved in leadership on our SRC. There are Retreats, Camps, an Indigenous Immersion and Overseas Immersions. There are also special days, fundraising events and so on.

There is something for everyone.

Our new Library is state of the art, with many excellent learning spaces. Our new Learning Hub provides specialized learning spaces both for students requiring learning support and students needing extension. We have many very new classrooms, laboratory and workshop spaces, a top-class Hospitality Kitchen, fully professional recording studio, a Theatre that can seat 600, a mini-Theatre lecture space, open learning areas, a dedicated STEM laboratory, modern Technics workshops and a Marine Science lab. Our beautiful Sr Marie Centre is a great place for Masses and liturgies as well as for teaching and learning activities. Our grounds are extensive and include plenty of space for our large student population to spread out at break times. We also have our own large sporting fields.

Our Transition program for Year 6 students transitioning to Year 7 provides a number of opportunities for both parents and students to become familiar with St Pius. In February we run afternoon/evening sessions for parents & students to come and have a look at our school.  The sessions include an extensive tour of the school and an information session from the School Executive. During Term 2, tours run each Friday during Sport Time for parents who missed the earlier ones. In Term 3, we hold a sports day at St Pius for all Yr6 students enrolling in Yr7. In Term 4, Yr9 students and a Leader of Wellbeing visit each feeder primary school and talk to Yr6 about what to expect in Yr7. Later in Term 4, parents are invited to a meeting at St Pius to meet their child’s Leader of Wellbeing.  We hold a Yr7 camp in Week 3 of Yr7 to enable students to get to know the students in their Year.

St Pius is currently transitioning to a Year 7 to 12 College.  During 2023 and 2024, St Pius will prepare for the commencement of its first Year 11 cohort in 2025.

Welcome to our school website. I hope you enjoy your visit and learn lots about our great school. Please contact Reception if you would like to make an appointment to tour our facilities and ask some questions in person.

Best wishes
